How to Verify MT4 Price Alerts? Distinguish Triggers, Notifications, and Actual Orders

Check Bid and Ask conditions, notification paths, the test button, and expiry settings. Do not treat receiving an alert as an order fill or a confirmed trading signal.

Setting a price alert can reduce repeated screen checking, but an alert is not an order, nor does it mean you should trade when the price is reached. Today we explain MT4 alert conditions and verification records, focusing on distinguishing three states: successful configuration, notification received, and actual trading.

First choose the symbol and quote side

The official MT4 help lists Bid greater than or less than a value, Ask greater than or less than a value, and time conditions. When setting up, first confirm the symbol and quote side. Do not infer from only one side of the chart that the other side was never triggered.

Without verifying the platform's real-time quotes, do not fill in so-called today's gold levels from this article. Alert values should come from your own research records and actual terminal environment. When using time conditions, separately verify the displayed and device time.

Alert actions are separate from order functions

Sound, email, mobile notification, or executable files are different actions. This article discusses verification of sound and notifications and does not require running unknown executable files. A regular price alert itself cannot replace orders, stop losses, or position checks.

If another program executes operations based on the alert, that is a separate implementation and requires clear permissions, purpose, and developer documentation. Receiving a message cannot be treated as an order having been filled.

Notification paths need separate verification

Mobile notifications require configuring the corresponding MetaQuotes ID in the terminal, while email requires relevant email configuration. The ID is used to correspond to a device and is not equal to the account trading password. Verify the source before filling it in, and do not expose personal credentials in screenshots.

Verify the selected action first, then wait for the condition to trigger. Network, device, or configuration may affect actual receipt. This article does not promise that every message will arrive instantly, nor can the absence of an alert be directly interpreted as the market never passing a certain level.

The Test button does not mean the price condition has been met

The official documentation states the Test button is used to check the availability of the selected alert, and modifications require confirmation to save. A test action can help verify the notification path, but it does not prove that a real price trigger condition has occurred, let alone that a market research judgment is correct.

Record the test time, action type, and actual receipt result. If anomalies remain, check terminal settings and device status separately, changing one clear factor at a time to avoid being unable to explain the cause after changing multiple settings in succession.

Expiry and repeat settings also need checking

Alerts have an expiry time, trigger count limit, and trigger interval. Seeing that an alert once existed in the list does not mean it is still enabled or unexpired at this moment. During maintenance, check the current status to avoid treating old configurations as currently running.

The official documentation states that expiry settings use local computer time. If using another computer or remote environment, first verify the actual device time. Do not infer the time zone used by the program solely from your own location.

Actions after an alert should be written down in advance

You can pre-record the materials to check after receiving an alert, such as quote source, timeframe, research conditions, and invalidation situations. When conditions are not met, it is acceptable to take no trading action. Do not treat the alert sound as a mandatory instruction to act.

Separately check account positions, pending orders, and fees. The existence of a notification does not mean protection is already in effect, and closing the terminal does not mean order risk has ended. The real order status should be verified in the corresponding account.

Save a reviewable maintenance result

Write down the symbol, quote side, alert condition, action type, expiry and repeat settings, and test results. Remove account numbers, personal information, and sensitive information from public screenshots. Do not fabricate successful receipt or live trading records.

Leveraged trading can cause significant losses. This article is for terminal practice education and does not constitute buy or sell instructions. It does not guarantee notification delivery, program operation, or future profits.

Risk notice: leveraged trading can cause substantial losses. Content is for research and education, with no return guarantees. Past performance does not predict future results.
