October 18 Gold Next-Week Outlook: Distinguishing the Data Week from the FOMC Week

Verify the October 19–23 labor data schedule and the October 27–28 FOMC meeting dates, and establish an opening record and an observation sequence after data releases.

This is a delayed update for today's morning briefing column, compiled in the afternoon Beijing time, with the focus on preparation for observation during October 19–23. No verifiable real-time gold trading series was obtained on Sunday, so no overnight gain or loss is added, and Friday's reference price is not packaged as today's new market move. What next week's outlook first needs to resolve is event sequencing and information standards, not setting a direction for prices in advance.

Next week is not the October FOMC meeting week

The Federal Reserve's official calendar lists the October 2026 FOMC meeting as scheduled for the 27th–28th. It does not fall in the week of October 19–23. Research can focus on how policy expectations change, but next week must not be written as a confirmed rate-decision week, and meeting results must not be filled in in advance.

Meeting dates are only known arrangements; policy choices and market reactions remain unknown. Even if several data points move in the same direction, that alone cannot be used to declare that a rate hike or cut will necessarily occur. This article has not verified comparable rate-probability quotes, so it does not list seemingly precise policy probability figures.

Verified labor data schedule

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics monthly calendar shows that September state employment and unemployment data will be released on October 20, and third-quarter weekly pay data for wage and salary workers will be released on October 21. Both release times are 10:00 U.S. Eastern Time, corresponding to 22:00 Beijing time under the current daylight saving time.

State employment data and the national nonfarm report cover different levels, and quarterly weekly pay and monthly average hourly earnings cannot be substituted for each other. Yesterday's weekend morning briefing already listed these two arrangements; today they are further placed on the timeline before the FOMC meeting: they provide supplementary information but do not on their own have the power to determine policy.

This is not a complete list of next week's economic events. The latest official arrangements should still be checked before release; data, speeches, or breaking news from other institutions should not be added to the confirmed schedule without verification. Blank spaces in the calendar also must not be interpreted as meaning the market will not move.

First break bullish and bearish judgments into testable questions

A more cautious research direction is that if subsequent information shows persistent price pressure and interest-rate constraints are difficult to ease, gold may face corresponding pressure. The more positive direction focuses on whether gold demand still has support under these constraints, and whether new quotes can retain signs of repair. This is conditional analysis, not a factual report on market positioning or fund flows.

Both paths can be watched at the same time; there is no need to choose one answer on the weekend that must be correct. The truly useful questions are: which variable has changed, whether the change is enough to overturn the old explanation, and whether the price reaction is consistent with the narrative. Without simultaneously verifying the dollar and yields, their moves are not added to complete the story.

The first record on Monday should preserve the original standard

After trading resumes, record the platform name, instrument, bid and ask, price time, and time zone, then compare with previous records under the same standard. If the platform or contract has changed, the difference between the two ends should not be used directly to claim a percentage change. Different trading sessions and quote sources may also lead to inconsistent high and low ranges.

This step is unrelated to forecasting direction, but it can reduce confusion in later reviews. If the opening shows a clear deviation or abnormal spread, mark that state first, then judge whether the old range can still be used. Without normal valid quotes, there is no rush to turn the weekend framework into order actions.

After data release, look at readings and interpretation separately

For each release, first save the official reading, previous value, and revisions, then check your own prior expectation basis. Without a reliable consensus expectation, describe only the published result and do not use headlines such as "far exceeding expectations." Then observe prices, avoiding treating data and market moves that are close in time as complete proof of causation.

If the price reaction is opposite to the initial understanding, preserve that divergence. It may be that the original explanation omitted a variable, or more time may be needed for verification; when evidence is insufficient, there is no need to immediately create a new certain reason. Writing the unknown parts clearly is the prerequisite for connecting the outlook with the review.

Leave room for updates

Today no new intraday levels are added, and no unverified weekly returns are calculated. Next week's work order is to check valid market data, track confirmed schedules, save release versions, and then revise observations based on new evidence. When old conclusions become invalid, the modification time and reason should be noted, rather than making historical articles appear never to have judged incorrectly.

This article is weekend research preparation, not personalized buying or selling advice. Future policy and gold price movements are both uncertain; leveraged trading may cause major losses, and no scenario constitutes a guarantee of returns.
