Evening Gold Outlook for November 1: After the Market Close, Testing Bull-Bear Divergence in Data Order

Major off-exchange gold markets are closed on Sunday. Drawing on Friday's Kitco historical quotes and already-released Fed and PCE information, this piece lays out the verification sequence for next week's job openings, trade, productivity, and employment reports.

On Sunday evening, major off-exchange gold markets remain closed. There are no new regular trading quotes tonight, so this review continues in the form of a look ahead to next week. The morning article already listed next week's data calendar, and the strategy watch also discussed two price paths from historical lows; this piece focuses on the order in which the data arrive and on the divergence of views: is the market actually trading stronger growth and still-high inflation, or concerns about an economic slowdown and safe-haven demand? The answer requires multiple pieces of evidence next week and cannot be decided by a single candlestick.

Weekend quotes can only serve as historical reference points

Kitco's public page still shows a gold bid of USD 3,874.40 per ounce and an ask of USD 3,876.40 at 17:00 New York time on October 30, and lists Friday's low of USD 3,869.30 and high of USD 4,027.30. That time is U.S. Eastern Daylight Time, which converts to 05:00 Beijing time on October 31. The page shows the same set of numbers on Sunday because the market is closed; it does not mean a new quote appeared at 21:00. Nor is it a traded price from another platform. When observing prices early next week, first re-check this platform's opening time, bid-ask spread, and executable depth, then mark the high and low ranges on your own chart.

Friday's significant decline has focused short-term attention on whether the low will continue to give way. But the market may gap at the start of the week on weekend news, or it may first retrace part of the decline. A price moving down through a historical low, if it is only a sudden widening of the spread or brief insufficient liquidity, is not enough to prove a new downtrend; a price rebound for a stretch does not mean the previous pressure has completely disappeared. Rather than predicting the first jump, it is better to wait for the structure and quote stability over several sessions after the open.

Data divergence: how growth and inflation act together

The Fed's October 28 statement kept the target range for the policy rate at 3.75% to 4.00%, while noting that economic activity has been expanding at a strong pace and that inflation remains elevated. The September PCE price index released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis on October 29 rose 3.6% year over year, and personal consumption expenditures rose 0.5% month over month. These facts can support the analysis that "rates may stay high for a longer period," but inflation, growth, the dollar, and real yields do not form a fixed chain. If the market has already priced in the relevant expectations, the price reaction to new information may also differ from a simple bullish-bearish table.

Another view holds that gold, after a rapid decline, may recover on safe-haven demand or position adjustment. This explanation must also be tested: if the dollar and Treasury yields continue to rise and a gold rebound cannot reclaim the previously lost area, "it has fallen a lot and should bounce" alone is not enough to support a trend reversal. If the dollar and yields fall back and gold successively forms higher lows, the recovery view gains more evidence. Both paths are conditional hypotheses, not guarantees of next week's direction.

Update judgments in order of release

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics calendar lists the September job openings report at 10:00 U.S. Eastern time on November 3, the preliminary third-quarter productivity and costs at 08:30 on November 5, and the October employment report at 08:30 on November 6. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis calendar also lists September international trade in goods and services at 08:30 on November 4. U.S. Eastern time enters standard time on November 1; the corresponding Beijing times are 23:00 on November 3, 21:30 on November 5, 21:30 on November 6, and 21:30 on November 4 for the trade data. Schedules may change, so official updates should still be checked before release.

Job openings can help gauge labor demand, productivity and unit labor costs affect the discussion of inflation pressure, and the employment report is one of the most closely watched comprehensive employment data releases of the week. Trade data may also change the discussion of growth and the dollar, but no single number should be directly translated into gold necessarily rising or falling. Before release, write down market expectations and possible revision risks; after release, see whether gold, the dollar, and yields move in sync, and whether the initial move holds into subsequent trading sessions. Verifying facts first and then revising views is more useful than rushing to write conclusions before the data.

Risk boundaries for next week

If there is an opening gap or the spread widens sharply during the data window, stop-loss lines on historical charts cannot ensure execution at the marked price. XAUUSD quotes, contract specifications, and liquidity differ across brokers, and Kitco's Friday bid cannot be treated as a uniform real-time support level. If there is no reliable contemporaneous quote, stay in observation mode. This article is for weekend review and next week's planning and does not constitute trading advice; leverage magnifies losses.
