October 30 Gold Strategy Watch: After GDP and PCE, First Watch Whether Gold Can Hold Near 4000
As of 09:25 Beijing time, Kitco spot gold bid is $4,004.50, with the page's intraday range at $3,995.90 to $4,069.90. Build two observation scenarios—breakout and pullback—based on the verifiable range, and watch the U.S. Employment Cost Index tonight.

After yesterday's U.S. growth and inflation data were released, gold is still fluctuating within a relatively wide price range. Today's strategy watch first answers one question: when the quote is near $4,000, will it continue weakening after a breakdown, or recover the lows and form back-and-forth movement? Below, only snapshots from the same quote source are used to construct observation zones, and invalidation conditions are written first. Market prices are constantly changing; the figures in this article are not real-time call prices.
Quote, Time, and Range Source
The Kitco spot gold page showed at 21:25 U.S. Eastern Daylight Time on October 29, i.e. 09:25 Beijing time on October 30: bid $4,004.50 per ounce, ask $4,006.50, down $16, or about 0.40%, from the page's previous reference; the page's listed daily high and low were $3,995.90 to $4,069.90. This quote is not an executable price for XAUUSD at EBC or any broker. Spreads, day boundaries, and extremes may differ across platforms; recheck on your own terminal before trading.
Observation zones are derived only from the verified range above: around $3,995.90 to $4,005 is the current lower band; the former is the Kitco page low, and the latter includes the area around this bid/ask quote; $4,069.90 is the page's intraday upper edge, not a permanent resistance. Because a verified hourly closing sequence is still missing in between, no arbitrary round number or historical chart pattern is written as precise support/resistance. As new candles appear, these boundaries will change.
Scenario One: Breakdown Below the Lower Band with Subsequent Confirmation
If the same Kitco quote source breaks below $3,995.90 again and remains below the lower band in at least one or two subsequent closes of the same period, this can be seen as a clue that sellers remain dominant. It should also be checked whether the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields strengthen simultaneously when the breakout occurs, and whether spreads widen during news periods. A single pierce followed by an immediate return may be due to insufficient liquidity or a false breakout. If gold returns above $4,005 and stabilizes, the observation framework for further decline is invalidated, and earlier lows should not be rigidly applied to the future.
Scenario Two: Recovery of the Lower Band and Repair Toward the Interior of the Range
If price first stops falling in the $3,995.90 to $4,005 area and then continuously recovers above $4,005, observe whether it gradually returns into yesterday's trading range. At this point, $4,069.90 is only a historical upper-edge reference, with a wide span; a rebound from the lows cannot be directly equated with reaching the upper edge. If the rebound lasts only a few minutes and then breaks below $3,995.90 again, the repair scenario is likewise invalidated. For beginners, waiting for closing confirmation often makes the structure clearer than chasing the first rebound candle, but any confirmation method can fail.
Tonight's Data and Risk Control
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics schedule shows that the third-quarter Employment Cost Index is due at 08:30 U.S. Eastern Time on October 30, i.e. 20:30 Beijing time. Yesterday's Bureau of Economic Analysis report showed that third-quarter real GDP initial estimate grew at an annualized 3.4%, the September PCE price index rose 3.6% year over year, and core PCE rose 3.1% year over year. These are published facts; tonight's data have not yet been released, and results cannot be written in advance. Even if the figures differ from expectations, gold may not move in a single direction; reassess both scenarios in light of the U.S. dollar, yields, and closing price positions.
If spreads and slippage widen on trading platforms near the data release time, chart touches may not be executable at that price. The zones and conditions in this article are for education and review, not buy or sell advice; leveraged trading can rapidly amplify losses.
