November 2 Gold Strategy Watch: Rebound Near $3,905; How to Verify the Early-Session Upper and Lower Edges

Kitco showed spot gold bid at $3,905.90 at 09:30 Beijing time, with a page range of $3,879.40 to $3,915.30. Analyze the two conditional scenarios of a breakout above the upper edge and a pullback below the lower edge, along with their invalidation points.

After the market resumed trading on Monday, gold showed a rebound relative to Friday's last quote. However, an "opening rebound" and "the end of the decline" are two different things. Today, first fix the quote source, time, and range, then discuss the two conditional paths: an upward breakout and a downward pullback. The spot quote here comes from Kitco, not the actual executable XAUUSD price of EBC or any other broker; when using a different platform, the highs, lows, spreads, and sessions must be rechecked against that platform's charts.

Quote Time and Near-Term Range

Kitco's spot gold page showed, at 20:30 New York time on November 1 (U.S. Eastern Standard Time), which is 09:30 Beijing time on November 2, a bid of $3,905.90 per ounce and an ask of $3,907.90. The page's stated daily range was $3,879.40 to $3,915.30, and it showed the bid up $31.50, or about 0.81%, from its previous reference. This is a time-stamped snapshot at 09:30 and does not mean the price is still the same when this article is read. Previously, Kitco showed a bid of $3,874.40 at 17:00 New York time on October 30; the two snapshots show an upward move in price, but each intermediate fluctuation was not verified tick by tick.

For this round, the near-term upper edge can be referenced around the page high of $3,915.30, and the lower edge around the day's low of $3,879.40. To avoid mistaking spread or a one- or two-dollar fluctuation for confirmation, the observation zones can temporarily be recorded as $3,910 to $3,916 and $3,879 to $3,885; these boundaries are analytical ranges based on Kitco's high and low, not guaranteed valid support or resistance, and certainly not a uniform order price. Friday's low of $3,869.30 is a farther outer reference from the previous trading day and must not be conflated with today's low.

Scenario 1: Breakout Above the Early-Session Upper Edge

If the bid from the same quote source breaks upward through around $3,915.30, and subsequent hourly candles remain above that area with pullbacks no longer falling back into the range, the recovery scenario would gain more support. Also watch whether the rise occurs only during a few minutes when the spread abnormally widens, and whether the dollar and Treasury yields are simultaneously creating opposing pressure. If price falls back below $3,910 just after crossing the high, or subsequent hourly closes return inside the early-session range, the breakout interpretation should be invalidated. Even a valid breakout would only indicate that the early-session upper edge has been reclaimed, and cannot be used to infer that Friday's decline has been completely reversed.

Watching upward is not the same as chasing highs. When quotes resume early in the week, price may swing rapidly during a phase of thinner initial liquidity. At the same moment, record the bid, ask, and spread, rather than screenshotting only a midpoint line. Different brokers' quote highs may differ by several dollars, and Kitco's $3,915.30 cannot be used directly as the trigger price on the EBC platform.

Scenario 2: Pullback to Test the Lower Edge

If the rebound lacks strength, price returns inside the early-session range and probes the $3,879 to $3,885 area; the focus is on whether it continuously breaks below around $3,879.40 on the same quote source. Only sustained trading below the low would add evidence of a continued decline; if there is only a brief pierce followed by a quick recovery and a higher low, the bearish interpretation should be downgraded. The invalidation condition for this scenario is a stable return into the early-session range, especially another test of the upper edge. If price moves further toward Friday's $3,869.30 area, volatility and risk should be reassessed, and the two trading days' lows should not be treated as a line that will never break.

Today's News Background and Execution Constraints

The Federal Reserve kept the target rate range at 3.75% to 4.00% on October 28 and said inflation remains high. Rate expectations may affect the dollar, yields, and gold, but that statement alone cannot explain every minute's move today. In the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics schedule, the next major labor market data is the September job openings report at 10:00 Eastern Standard Time on November 3, corresponding to 23:00 Beijing time on November 3; the data has not yet been released, and the result cannot be presumed. If today's market significantly exceeds the above early-session range, the original observation should be updated with new highs and lows from the same platform, rather than publishing another article using outdated levels. Any direction may cause losses beyond expectations due to gaps, spreads, and slippage. This article is for conditional observation only and does not constitute a definite buy or sell instruction or a guarantee of returns.
