October 26 Gold Strategy Observation: How to Confirm the Opening Range and When to Withdraw a Judgment?
After Monday's open, first verify the quote time, bid/ask prices, and first-hour range, then assess both the breakout and pullback scenarios. There is currently no cross-platform quote verification available for precise levels, so do not fabricate support and resistance.

Prices after Monday's reopening may have a gap versus last Friday's last visible quote. Readers are most concerned about "where support and resistance are now," but a number that has not verified the quote platform, price time, bid/ask prices, and reproducible range will instead mislead judgment. This article found that Kitco's public page has a world spot reference quote and intraday high/low, but the page uses a uniform "EST" label, which raises questions about the convention versus the actual conversion for U.S. daylight saving time in October; it is also not equal to the executable XAUUSD price at various brokers. Therefore, at this moment, that number is not packaged as an instant trading level at 09:30 Beijing time, nor is precise support and resistance fabricated from it. Below is an observation framework that can be used once valid data is obtained on one's own platform.
First Lock Down the Quote and Range Convention
Open your own XAUUSD trading platform and record the screenshot time, platform server time zone, Bid, Ask, spread, and whether the quote is continuously updating. Record separately last Friday's last valid quote, the first valid quote set at Monday's open, and the high and low of the first completed hour after the open. Different brokers may have different opening times, weekend gaps, and spreads; one cannot combine Kitco's public spot reference price, one MT4's Bid chart, and another platform's Ask execution price to draw an "exact" line.
If the first hour has not yet been completed, first call the high and low visible at that time a "provisional observation range" and do not claim that it has been fixed. When the time window ends, the upper edge of the range can serve as a breakout observation band and the lower edge as a pullback observation band; these two bands come from actually recorded prices, not from imagined round-number levels. If the spread abnormally widens early after the open, first wait for quotes to stabilize before judging whether there is a usable range. For readers, the time of the quote used is more important than rushing to report a number.
Scenario One: What Would Give an Upside Breakout a Basis
If, in completed candlesticks, price crosses above the pre-marked first-hour upper edge and a subsequent retest does not fall back into the original range, "acceptance above" can be treated as a candidate explanation. One should also compare the body and wick of the breakout candlestick, whether a higher low subsequently forms, and whether the bid-ask spread returns to normal. If there is only a momentary wick crossing, a switch in quote platform, or a sudden spread widening, these cannot be treated as a breakout of equal strength.
This scenario's invalidation conditions should also be written down in advance: price returns to the original range and stays there, forms a lower high, or the Bid and Ask execution conditions make the original judgment impossible under the predetermined risk tolerance. After invalidation, the observation band should not be continuously moved upward just to preserve the original "bullish" label. In Fed week, events are dense, and a short-term breakout may also be repriced by news; continuation cannot be promised.
Scenario Two: How to Identify a Pullback or False Breakout
If, after the open, price rushes above the upper edge and then quickly returns inside the range, or never crosses the upper edge and instead falls below the confirmed lower edge, two different paths can be observed: pullback and false breakout. For the former, record the time and extent of the prior crossing and the candlestick that returned to the range; for the latter, check whether the lower edge comes from the same time window, rather than temporarily picking a convenient low on the chart. If price returns above the range and forms a higher high, the weaker interpretation should be withdrawn. If it is only a brief dip under thin liquidity and then a return to the range, it should not be written up as a confirmed downtrend.
What to Focus on Verifying Today
First look at the first-hour range and spread, then compare whether the structure in the Asian session and European session continues. The Federal Reserve's official calendar lists the October 27-28 FOMC meeting, and the result has not yet been announced; the market may adjust expectations in advance, but expectations cannot be written directly as facts. Even if reliable quotes are obtained later, the update time and old/new conventions should be marked in the original text, and the 09:30 scenario should not be silently replaced. At this moment there is no reliable executable price for the same moment and no unified time-zone range, so this article publishes only a structural framework and does not provide fabricated levels or definitive trade calls.
