October 25 Next-Week Gold Strategy Watch: If Monday Opens With a Gap, Don't Force Old Levels
Sunday markets are closed; Friday's Kitco quote serves only as a historical reference; separately discuss observation steps and invalidation conditions for Monday opening inside or outside the old range.

Major gold trading markets are closed on Sunday. Today there is no real-time executable XAUUSD quote that can be verified under normal trading conditions, so this article does not repeat Friday's last snapshot as "today's levels," nor does it treat yesterday's next-week strategy as a signal that has already occurred on Monday. Unlike Saturday's article, which reviewed historical ranges, today focuses on a more specific question: if a gap appears when markets reopen on Monday, how should the original observation framework be adjusted during the first trading session.
First record the historical reference and date
The last available quote on the Kitco news page is still labeled New York, October 23, 21:01 EDT, corresponding to Beijing time October 24, 09:01, with a bid of 3994.90 and an ask of 3996.90 USD per troy ounce; its Friday quote-day range was 3975.10 to 4040.20. These are Friday source records, not Sunday real-time quotes. The source differs from a broker's XAUUSD contract, whose market open time, spread, server time zone, and first quote may differ. Before Monday's open, there is no reason to treat Kitco's last bid as the pending-order price on your own platform.
Friday's high and low can be drawn as a gray historical reference band, but they are not support/resistance where "a touch must produce a bounce." If Monday opens inside Friday's range, it means the first price at the open is still within the old range; if it opens outside the range, it can only be recorded first as a possible gap or repricing, and cannot immediately be called a confirmed breakout. In particular, the spread in the first session may be wider than usual, and the difference between the chart's Bid price and the actual Ask price at purchase must be checked separately.
Scenario 1: Opening inside Friday's range
First wait for your pre-selected timeframe to form a completed candle. If price repeatedly crosses the middle of the range without new swing highs or lows, the most honest conclusion is "direction unconfirmed." If higher lows gradually form and pullbacks hold above the newly formed local support, only then pay attention to the possibility of a repair toward Friday's source high. The invalidation condition for the repair scenario is price falling back into the middle of the consolidation, breaking below the new low, or the spread widening enough to invalidate the original risk estimate.
If price keeps pushing highs and lows lower within the range and tests Friday's source low again, observe the weaker scenario. But a single wick piercing the low does not equal a valid breakdown on a completed timeframe. If price quickly recovers into the old range and forms a higher low, the weaker interpretation should be withdrawn. Neither side is an instruction to trade immediately; they are only paths to verify later on the same timeframe.
Scenario 2: Opening outside the range
If the platform's opening quote is above Friday's source high of 4040.20, first confirm that your broker's Friday closing price and Monday opening price do indeed have a comparable gap, then observe the pullback. If price returns inside the old range, the so-called upward breakout may just be temporary repricing; only if completed timeframes continue to hold outside and form higher lows is there a basis for further discussion. Conversely, if it opens below the source low of 3975.10, also wait to see whether price continues to make lower highs and lows, or quickly recovers into the range. These two numbers are the endpoints of Kitco's historical range, and are absolutely not precise trigger prices unified across different platforms.
A common mistake during a gap is to see price far from the old level and write "the gap must be filled" as a law. Actual markets make no promise that gaps must be filled; if new information changes price expectations, a gap can persist for a long time. Another mistake is to enlarge position size because the first session is volatile, assuming that a closer stop distance makes it safe; slippage and abnormal spreads can distort a static risk budget.
Event windows will change the observation rhythm
The Federal Reserve website lists a meeting on October 27-28, which has not yet taken place. Early next week's prices may reflect expectation adjustments, and only after the meeting can the official statement and market reaction be checked. Do not attribute any direction in advance to an interest rate decision that has not yet been announced. If platform quotes, news times, or chart data cannot be reliably aligned, pause giving precise support/resistance and wait for the source to recover.
When the market actually opens on Monday, record the platform server time, Bid and Ask, spread, the first completed timeframe, and whether it falls within Friday's historical range. Then use this new evidence to rewrite the weekend framework, rather than letting the weekend framework direct the new market. This article is a conditional observation during market closure and does not constitute a definite trade call or return guarantee; leveraged trading may cause substantial losses.
